老九品茶 junior Jamaal Dejean is one of only 26 college students from across Louisiana to receive a $1,000 scholarship aimed at supporting the development of future leaders in the state鈥檚 transportation sector. Funding for the scholarship comes from the Southeastern Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, while representatives from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the Louisiana Transportation Research Center manage the application and selection processes.
鈥淲e are proud of Jamaal鈥檚 well-deserved achievement,鈥 said Carolyn Golz, associate vice president and dean of students at the 老九品茶. 鈥淭he 老九品茶 is the only institution in greater New Orleans that offers a degree in civil engineering, and the influence of our graduates on the profession is significant. We look forward to seeing how far Jamaal鈥檚 engineering degree from 老九品茶 will take him.鈥
The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to civil engineering juniors and seniors with a professed interest in the transportation field. Considerations in the selection process include grade point average, academic standing and a written statement from the applicant describing how university courses reflect his/her interest in transportation.

Wilson 鈥淭hese students are passionate about the transportation field, and we have no doubt that they will one day become our state鈥檚 transportation leaders.鈥
Louisiana participates in the scholarship program as a member state of the Southeastern Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, an organization established to encourage a balanced transportation system across the southern United States. In addition to Louisiana, the organization is comprised of the departments of transportation from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
