Title IX for Students

Title IX is a federal law that protects people in the United States participating in any education program or activity that is funded by federal money. It specifically provides protection from any kind of discrimination based on sex in institutions that receive federal funding, such as �Ͼ�Ʒ��. The official �Ͼ�Ʒ�� Policy on Prohibiting Power Based Violence and Sexual Misconduct, AP-OP-28.4.

The law mandates the following:• Equal access for students, regardless of sex, in all areas of student life.
• Protections from power-based violence and sexual harassment.
• Protections for students who are pregnant and/or parenting from discrimination.
• Students who are victims and survivors of sexual harassment, stalking, assault, and/or domestic violence may make official reports under Title IX.
• Students do not have to file a Title IX complaint/report to receive help.

Confidential Advisors for Title IX

If you have been a victim of sexual assault, harassment, or other forms of power—based violence, �Ͼ�Ʒ�� can help.

Confidential advisors are trained, full-time faculty and staff members at �Ͼ�Ʒ�� who are available to guide students toward local, accessible resources that can help them, and can answer questions without being required to report them.

They can offer information about student-forward issues at home or at school such as

- • Coercion
- • Force
- • Violence
- • And/or sexual misconduct

They can tell you how you are able to report on issues you discuss with them, if you choose to do so.

Domestic and Sexual Violence Information & Resources

Domestic and Sexual Violence refers to a variety of behaviors used by an individual to exert power and control over another person.

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

DV occurs among intimate partner relationships, families, and household members. Behaviors that cause harm may include forms of emotional, economic, psychological, sexual, and physical abuse. These actions can intimidate, isolate, manipulate, humiliate, terrorize, threaten, belittle, injure, and traumatize all persons involved.

What is Sexual Violence (SV)?

SV is any kind of sexual activity or act that took place without consent. SV can be perpetrated against ANYONE, by anyone. This can include family, intimate partners, acquaintances and strangers. Usually SV involves one or more of the following: pressure, manipulation, bullying, coercion, intimidation, threats, deception, or force.

Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response:

(504) 702-3000; 2000 Canal Street Forensic exams for DV&SV survivors. Exams can be performed up to 5 days after an incident. Filing a police report is not a requirement to get a forensic exam.
